Next Generation Inverters

The development concept for Hitachi propulsion equipment is based on IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor) technology, which realizes a high interrupting current of 1,200 A (the highest capacity in the world) with a high voltage of 3,300 volts. This technology contributes to the realization of compact, low noise and high efficiency inverter systems. Moreover, not only do IGBT inverters result in higher passenger and operator comfort, they contribute to the reduction of environmental impact through the adoption of a water cooling system that cools elements without the use of Freon gas.
As a result, next generation traction inverters using IGBT modules have become the mainstream for passenger railway worldwide.
