I should like now to give a more detailed explanation of the A-train B-system.
I have referred on several occasions above to the B-system. The "B" here refers to the age of "broadband" networks, and it expresses the "dreams" we have of the future, coming as it does immediately after A in the alphabet. The B-system we are proposing is a new rolling stock system which follows the style of the A-train and takes maximum advantage of the benefits brought on by the IT revolution. Centering on the B-LAN = Broadband rolling stock information control system, our aim is to update the basic functions required of railway rolling stock, such as the propulsion system, the braking system, and the service power supply system, in order to create an ideal platform for passenger services and staff support. In addition, by actively introducing broadband terrestrial and carriage-based transmission with strength in respect to moving bodies, we aim to make it possible to share, in a seamless manner, information aimed at providing support with maintenance and the work of railway staff. We hope thereby to bring about a revolution in maintenance work, to enable improved services in line with the diversifying needs of passengers, and to provide a platform for the creation of new business. We are aiming at a revolution in rolling stock systems centering on B-LAN and at combining this with a rationally laid out body system. This is what we are referring to in the "A-train B-system" we are proposing on this occasion.
