Hitachi is the first non-UNISIG* supplier to win a ETCS Level 2 compliant ATP contract

Hitachi Ltd, (Hitachi) has won the ATP system contract for Guangzhou - Shengzhen - Hong Kong dedicated passenger line in cooperation with Beijing Holisys Co., Ltd., with start of revenue service scheduled for 2010.

Hitachi's CTCS (Chinese Train Control System) compatible solution consists of 40 onboard components and 3 trackside Radio Block Centres (RBC). CTCS is similar to ETCS (European Train Control System).

China is making significant investment in railways, building around 12,000 km of dedicated passenger only track for high speed and intercity trains.

Hitachi is a major supplier of ATP solutions to Japanese railway operators.

Hitachi was also awarded the contract for supply of onboard ATP equipment for intercity trains by China's Rail Ministry in 2005. This equipment has been in operation since April 2007, without experiencing any major failures.

In February 2008, Hitachi signed an agreement with Network Rail (UK's rail infrastructure owner and operator) for a joint ETCS development project.

As the worldwide demand for railways continues to grow, Hitachi intends to increase its market share in signalling systems in China, and other global markets.
