Hitachi, Ltd. made successful bid for the Electrical & Mechanical systems of Taipei CKS International Airport access Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) System, in cooperation with Marubeni Corporation and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. This contract was signed off on 12 January 2006. The project is planned and executed by Bureau of High Speed Rail, Ministry of Transportations and Communications. After the commercial operation, the MRT will connect Taipei city central and CSK International Airport within 35 minutes. The whole route (total 51.2 km) is scheduled in service in September 2013.

Hitachi will supply the substation equipment for the whole line, including transformers and switchgears at the bulk substations, the traction substations, the station substations (total 21 stations), and the depot substations.

Up to now, Hitachi has delivered 96 diesel locomotive cars to Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA), and, has received an order in 2004 to supply tilting trains (48 cars) to TRA. In addition to these rolling stock projects, the new contract for the substation on the Airport access MRT line expands Hitachi's railway system business field in Taiwan. Hitachi will aim at the leap in a further Taiwanese market as an integrator of the railway system.
