Hitachi Ltd. participated in InnoTrans2002, which took place from September 24 to 27 at Messe Berlin in Germany. Being the first Japanese total system integrator of transportation systems to participate in InnoTrans, Hitachi interested many visitors from around the world.

Compared to its exhibition in year 2000, InnoTrans this year succeeded in increasing number of visitors upto 30,000, exhibitors counting upto 1,000. Hitachi's stand alone had around 2,000 visitors from China, Czech, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, the UK, and many other countries and regions. There were also many press related guests showing interest in reporting on the first major total system integrator ever to come from Asia to participate in InnoTrans.

Exhibited at the stand were: mock-up of the next generation aluminum rolling stock "A-train", front mask module of Shinkansen, sample of Friction Stir Welding(FSW) on aluminum double skin, IGBT module samples, on-train multimedia information system, autonomous decentralized train information system, and driving simulator system. Guests also enjoyed a taste of Japanese rice wine called "sake", which were served from traditional Japanese barrel called "taru", and also some taste of Japanese snacks.
