On December 1, 2002, East Japan Railway Company (JR EAST) has started its operation of the extended line of Tohoku Shinkansen, between Morioka and Hachinohe. The new Shinkansen,'Hayate', can take you to Hachinohe from Tokyo in less than 3 hours, reducing the travel time by 37 minutes at most compared to using the former express train from Morioka. The extension of Shinkansen to one of the northernmost cities in Japan's mainland has long been a wish for the region. Not only to the region and its vicinities, this extension is also of great significance to Japan's advancement in railway technology. Following this extension, Hitachi has developed our technologies jointly with JR EAST in the fields such as propulsion system, digital ATC, and traffic management system. These technologies are beneficial to the train operator, passengers, and the ecosystem --- making everyone happier. You can find more about our railway technologies in Hitachi-Rail.com!
