Hitachi Monorail System, based upon the "Alweg" guideway straddle design, offers mass transit planners an alternative with distinctive features when compared to other public transportation systems:

1.Minimal Public Impacts
The straddle design employed by Hitachi Monorail System uses a highly efficient guideway design. The guideway's narrow beam is produced offsite so that the route corridor can remain highly accessible to the general public during construction. The completed guideway is substantially slimmer and allows more light through than the wide bridge structures required by other transit vehicle designs.
2.Route Flexibility
The rubber tires used on Hitachi Monorail System also increase traction performance allowing the vehicle to cope with steeper grades than steel wheeled vehicles. The guideway structure can be constructed in hilly and developed urban areas. As a result, transit planners have greater flexibility when configuring routes.
3.Safety
As an elevated system, Hitachi's monorails are grade separated thus eliminating the potential of injury to pedestrians or collisions with automobile traffic on surface streets.
4.Low Construction Costs
The total volume of material used to produce the narrow beam guideway for Hitachi's monorails is significantly less than amount needed to produce the wide bridge structure required by other transit vehicle designs. Thus, construction costs are substantially lower.
