Developed on the basis of the proven 300 series bogie design with refinements that reduce noise, vibration levels, and generated stress and simplify maintenance, based on the following design concepts:
- Tapered roller bearings for improved operating stability
- Semi-active suspension for improved riding comfort
- Reduced high-frequency vibrations

The design concepts of this bogie became the basis for the bogies
used in E3 series trains, which are mainly operated in Akita Shinkansen.
-Non-suspended load is reduced using an aluminum alloy for gearbox and axlebox components to improve high-speed stability.
- Motor bogies feature two brake calipers per axle; trailer bogies feature four brake calipers per axle for improved braking performance.
- The booster cylinder anti-skid control has been changed from previous hydraulic anti-skid control to air pressure anti-skid control to reduce booster cylinder weight and dimensions.
- Semi-active suspension and fully active suspension for improved riding comfort

Express EMU bolsterless tilting bogie
Features active tilting to improve riding comfort and reduce transit times by enabling higher speeds on curves.
Combines improved riding comfort with 25 km/h faster balancing speed on curves with a 400-meter radius.
The tilt mechanism is powered by air cylinders with roller bearings to support the tilt beams. Dust-proof devices protect the roller bearings for increased reliability.
The bogie side frame uses weld-pressed members. The bogie transoms are forged from seamless pipes for greater reliability and strength.
